M.P: Shoot 1 & 2 reflection

Shoot reflection

Sunday - Tonbridge Park and House
  • For this day of filming, Hamish took charge as he wasn't able to do come to the filming the next day.
  • Our main objective was to film the scenes where our main character is on her own, showing her isolation and grievance over her boyfriend. We also had to get the time lapse scene in and the scene where our character looks at the photo frames
  • I helped direct the shots and directed Anna in what to do in each of the shots
  • I also filmed some of the scenes, such as the over the shoulder shot where Anna is looking at the photo frames
  • We worked well as a group and listened to each other's ideas
  • We also timed our shoot well and stuck to all our timings and location
  • One of the locations we went to was a park with swings. We filmed Anna swinging on one of the swings on her own, with an empty one next to her. However, we found that the park did not look nice and swings look very childish due to the very bright colours. We decided to not film anymore there as it would not fit in with the vibes we were trying to create.

Monday - Seven sister cliffs
  • For this day of filming, Fred and I shared the filming and directing of our actors.
  • I filmed various shots such as some of the ones where she is lip-syncing the words
  • One of the shots I set up was the last shot. This was a low angle shot of our character placing the kite on the ground and walking away from it. To do this shot, I had to lie on the ground and place the camera on the ground. I then asked Anna to carry out the actions I wanted to make sure the actions were in frame and in the correct third. For this shot, I also directed how it was going to happen, when the actress had to place the kite, walk away and when the kite would fly away.
  • Another shot I filmed was a 360 pan whilst the actress was lip-syncing on the beach. For this I had to make sure she was always in the frame and the other people there had to go to another part of the beach so they were not in view.
  • Throughout the day, I directed different shots where the actors had to do different things, for example, for the flashback shots, I directed our male actor on what to do and where to go at every part when the camera was rolling.
  • We were lucky because the weather was not too bad. It did not rain and the lighting was good for the majority of the time. However, nearer the end of the shoot, it did start to become dark and it was only 2:30-3. Therefore, we did have to work faster as we did not want it to become too dark for the camera.
  • Our planned timings for the day was successful. We decided we wanted to be in Seaford for 10. We arrived there for around 10:30. We planned to finish filming between 2:30-3 so we could go on to Eastbourne. We did finish filming at around 2:45. This meant if we had enough memory on our SD card, we would have been able to get to Eastbourne in good time to film.
  • We did encounter some problems on the day.
  • We were originally going to film the lip syncing on the beach under the cliff, meaning we would get the white cliffs in clear view. However, the tide was in the day we went and there was minimal beach. This meant we were unable to film on there. We compromised and Fred and I made the decision to film on the actual beaches where there was a vast spread of the beach.
  • One problem was with the kites. We brought 3 along with us and due to the extreme wind, many of the parts flew away or kept snapping. Therefore we had to customise the kites and take different parts from the separate kites. It was a very good idea of us to buy 3 of them.
  • Another problem was that we had taken so much footage, that there was no memory left on the SD card. Unfortunately, we had only approximately 2 more shots to film before we would finish filming and the memory card was full. This meant we had to delete some of our footage. The footage we deleted was not of high importance, we deleted the video log we did the previous day and some of the photos that were repetitive.
  • The consequence of the full SD card was that we were not able to film in our last location. We had planned to go from the cliffs to Eastbourne and film the memory shots. However, we were unable to do this and have postponed this for another day.
