M.P: Lucy Rose Video and Print Promo Package

  • This album cover is fairly simple. Lucy Rose is lying on the ground looking up at the sky and it is implied she is listening to music due to the retro radio player next.
  • The location she is in looks very calm and in the middle of the countryside where she is surrounded by nature. This calm surrounding suggests the type of music she has on her album and we expect her songs to be fairly peaceful and have a good feel to them.
  • On the cover, there is the notion of present and absent. Lucy Rose is looking up at the sky which suggests she is in her own world, relaxing and there is a mysterious feel to it as she does not make eye contact with the audience. However, as she is on the cover, there is the element of her being present as we can see her.

Lucy Rose - Lines
  • In the music video, Lucy Rose is in almost all of the shots. This allows the audience to consume more of her which attracts them towards the video. There are also many close-ups of the artist which allows para-social intimacy between the artist and the audience.
  • There are various locations used in this music video. These include, inside different rooms in a house, the outside of a house, outside in the hills. These different locations are fairly simple showing that there is a low production cost. This is similar to other Lucy-Rose videos where she picks simple locations.
  • There is a relationship between the music and visuals in this video. At the beginning of the song, it is a fairly slow pace. The cutting rate is fairly slow and the artist is usually just lip-syncing the words and standing still. As the song progresses, the music becomes a faster tempo which increases the cutting rate and she is more lively in her bodily actions. For example, when the music is at a slower tempo, the artist is walking towards a place. However, when the music is at a fast tempo, she is running.
  • In this video, Lucy Rose breaks the fourth wall in a few of the shots. This creates a direct relationship between her and the audience.

Breaking the fourth wall
  • There are many signifiers in this music video that present the artist's mood. For example, in some shots, her facial expression is sad which signifies she is upset and perhaps reminiscing old memories. In other shots she smiles which suggest she is happy. These signifiers allow the audience to understand more about the song so we can relate to her and feel for her.
  • The genre of Lucy Rose is indie-folk. Her star image helps to convey this genre. For example, in the video, she wears a casual checked top which has connotations of the countryside and country-folk. This also causes her to stay true to her innocent, laid back type persona that she has constructed.
  • Part of Dyer's theory on stars is that they are both ordinary and extraordinary. In this video, Lucy Rose is seen as an ordinary girl who lives in the country side in a small cottage living a 'normal' life. However, the extraordinary element to her, is that she can sing well and has the ability to write her own songs that can connect to her audience.
